Legend of the Galactic heroes - Better than Star wars in every conceivable way
Shinsekai Yori - Most unique anime plot ever
Vinland Saga - Quality historical and seinen anime (Manga is better tho)
Evangelion - Classic anime, watch it ASAP
Nana - Most realistic depiction into human attitude toward love than any other anime.
Now and here, there and now - is by far the most depressing anime I've ever seen. 10/10 anime, deserves far more credit than it got
Serial experiments Lain - Biggest mindfuck anime
Steins Gate - Excellent anime all round
Higurashi - Horror with a nice mystery in it

You should enter the World of Visual Novels, there's SO much good content there, and it's so interactive, you'll fall in love with it.

Saya no Uta is my first Visual novel recommendation (18+ content there, btw)

Shinsekai Yori is incredible. I’ve never seen another anime like it. I have to rewatch Higurashi since I didn’t know what was going on throughout it. If you want another anime that has a realistic depiction of romance, watch Honey and Clover. If you’re looking for another horror, try Shiki. You have a pretty great list though.

Shiki was another very good anime, very gruesome ending as well.

I've never heard of Honey and Clover, thanks for the recommendation. It has very good reviews on MyAnimeList (check it out btw, it's basically IMDB for anime)

Another anime I would recommend is Gankutsuou, I felt it was very underrated. It's the anime retelling of the Count of Monte Cristo.

No, I’ve never read a visual novel. I’d like to try it though. Do you have any recommendations of visual novels that have an anime adaptation? Also, doesn’t a VN take a lot longer to go through?

Steins Gate is one example of a VN with an anime adaption. They do take longer to go through, but the story has far more detail and the characters feel like real people

One piece has better world building, character development, and Plot,
After In the Arlong Park Arc it gets good. It’s around ep 30
