If her Somali sounds fine to you then no shade but you are probably reer hooyo mataalo too. Either that or you're from the same region and it's your unique dialect/accent in which case I apologise.

Arabic seems more reasonable though. 10/10 times I get told Somali sounds like Arabic by ajanabis. South-East Asian is so random though. It's probably because they're American...

The funny thing is I’ve never had a Middle Eastern person tell me that Somali sounds Arabic to them.

I don’t know my Somali is definitely not the best and I don’t have certain accent, my family is from xamar so it’s not specific to any region I guess.
My friend once told me my language sounds Arabic. To me that's better sounding than South Asian languages
:tacky:
Really? I find Urdu to be one of the most beautiful languages, Arabic sounds really rough like German lol

Amharic defo sounds like some Indian language with their mchew mchew balaayo

I cannot stand that crap:deadrose:
Just something about those languages that triggers me I would never attempt to learn it.

You are one of a kind abaayo. I especially love those rough type of languages like German

Lmao I have. One of my Kurdish friends straight up thought Somali was a dialect of Arabic when he heard me talking to my mum. I haven't had an Arab say Somali sounds like Arabic though.

Only reason I brought up dialect/accent was because of this video:

Everyone was ripping into this girl for her atrocious Somali until it was discovered she was speaking (or at least trying to speak) af-maay lmao. So I will not judge this Xaliimo too early

What are you talking about? For someone who probably was born and raised in the US, her af Somali is pretty good. Her dialect is reer waaqoyi.
I have heard worse but it's definitely not good, regardless of where she was born... No hate though, my Somali isn't perfect either

I think af Somali (along with Quranic Arabic) sounds the best - Somali is full of so much character and expression, like you're telling a story around a campfire at night under the stars. It evokes imagery of hearing a stranger from a mysterious and ancient land speak eerily familiar words in a long-forgotten tongue.

Arabic sounds rough in everyday use, but the Arabic of the Quran is otherworldly beautiful and is literally the words of the Creator of Worlds. Listen to Surah Taha, Mulk, or Yasin for example, especially with a reciter such as Mishary al Afasy or Abdulbasit Abdusamad. Verses 25-32 of Surah Taha gets me every time
