I have realized Somalis don't follow the proper way of getting to know someone, an example is you will see two Somali couples who aren't officially married holding hands , going out to movies and eating out.

In fact in Islam they are supposed to have a mahram near by (brother/uncle) so nothing Haram happens

Are somalis even religious?

It’s nothing wrong with eating out in a public place and talk. As long you’re in a public place and have strictly no relations it’s all good. You must get to know them without having a third person listening to your conversations because that’s awkward. In the meantime you have your family doing all the necessary checks on the person by 1-3 months you have all the information about them. Once thats done and your parents are ok with them you still need other checks like health-check etc. Never date someone without your parents knowing because you can’t trust people these days.

Islamically that is wrong to go to the movies if unmarried. But if engaged its okey. But still i would rather couple marry and then u can do public affection display

PS i hate public affection display from my husband. If he holds my hand in public, i stand up still and ask him what the hell r u doing?
