That calendar already exists i.e the Hijri calendar.

This has to be something unique to Somalis:hillarybiz:
There’s no need, this calendar does everything we need. If you want we could use the Gregorian calendar as a 2nd one so it’s easier for students to learn about history in the future.

There is a need sxb, both of these calendars are foreign and are not catered to us. Only weak nations follow other nations sxb. Also the gregorian calendar is a pagan calendar and the Hijri calendar can not be used for day to day life because it is unstable

Gregorian calendar is the most practical.

Well calenders are usually marked by significant events that happened recently, and whose date is verified. Personally i like the somali calender to be synchronized with the birth of samale.so that would mean go and find out the next ziyaro of shiekh ismail jeberti .(which would make the somali calender approximately 698 years)

I would rather do rise of kingdom of punt or Cushite Empire taking control of Egypt which would launch Cushite calender

Samaale the figure himself is before the common era itself, he would have mosy likely have lived around the time of Dawud pbuh. Darod, like Hawiya and Dir, are descendants rather than his direct children

To each their own
Say it with me.

WE, DON'T, NEED A F###ING CALENDAR!

It's redundant and is only really necessary when it was created and used independently by its people in the past ie Chinese.

Stick with the widely used gregorian calendar for simplicity or the Islamic calendar for religious reasons.

I would say the fall of the Kingdom of punt, as the beginning of our calender by time we got one cause even Ethiopians got a calendar of their own

So far, the two most probable ones we can choose from is either the Fall of the Kingdom of Punt or estimate the the birth of Samaale as the beginning.

If you can find some info about this Kingdom that would be great sxb:samwelcome:
