Moving to America from the UK

When I graduate I would like to move to and work in America inshallah.

Do they accept fresh graduates or would I need a few years of experience?

Though I have a UK passport, I was born in Somalia. Would that be a problem?

Thanks.

Marry a xalimo from the states, that’s the easiest way. Also don’t make the mistake of moving to California or NYC, I know most of you think those states are cool from watching movies but reality is different. Move to a smaller state with good Muslim community.

Why not Australia or Canada? Easier to get in them than US
Definitely not Australia, that country scares me with all those poisonous snakes and spiders.

Canada is a bit like the UK, which is why I wan't to avoid it. The weather is atrocious, the cost of living is extremely high compared to most of America, houses are very small, lower wages, higher taxes, no opportunities etc.

America is my dream inshallah.

How long do I have to be married to her before I can get citizenship and divorce her?

I was thinking San Diego or Seattle/Washington. Do Somalis move states often or do 99 % stay in the same state their whole lives?

Lol I don’t know, do some research, I know it took my uncle’s wife 4 years to get her citizenship, she was moving from Sweden. Between those two places, I would go with Seattle, bigger Muslim community(especially Somalis) and better job opportunities. I know a lot of people that moved away from San Diego to MN(my family included lol)

Go to Texas if you are single guy, good food (large people lol), educated large Muslim population, no welfare, no income tax at all, warm weather, conservative minded friendly people, and with your British accent they will hire you on the spot. Texas is probably opposite of UK. Stay away from northern states unless you tryna start a family. Only issue is you need to have a company sponsor you to come here like what the Hindi and German engineers do in Texas and Cali.

@TheShinning whats the situation like regarding paid annual leave and also maternity/paternity leave in the US?
Well it varies, my current company pays 16 weeks paid maternity and paternity leave. I know some companies pay as little as 6 weeks, some don’t even pay, the US is definitely one of the worst for this, I heard Netflix pays up to 50 weeks of paid maternity leave, they probably think twice before hiring young women :pachah1:

Yeah I heard it’s quite bad but didn’t realise it was that bad.
What’s paid holiday leave like?

You get more PTO the longer you stay with the company, currently I get 4 weeks paid vacation, 10 holiday days, 3 floating holiday/personal days and 4 weeks of sick leave.

That’s interesting. In the uk we get 5.6 weeks of paid holiday even as a new starter to the company. It’s standard I think for everyone.
