Why has Gedo not been stable?

It's largely a single clan that lives there. It has the natural resources including Somalia's main river running through it, it's located on 2 international borders for trade. So my question is why has it not been a stable region post-1991.

It is false that Gedo is one a clan region. It is diverse specially Luuq district (lots of Rahanweyn & Dir) and Ceel Waaq (Garre).

Its very simple tbh.

Its because these gaajo inhabitants have been all fleeing to Mogadishu, reer gaajo Gedo can't do sh1t without other's beside them, especially HAG babysitting them as they always did.

:damn:Damns so many ongoing conflicts in that gaajo Gedo, mxs will be extinct the way things are going there as many clans strive to expand in Gedo especially with the new players/Beesha led by Madobe that are flocking there

Back in 2005 there was a big fight between Garre and Marehan in Gedo many died.

Clashes between rival Somali clans kill 20

Sun, Jul 24, 2005, 01:00

Renewed clashes between rival clans fighting for control of a trading town in southern Somalia have killed 20 people and injured at least 30, residents said on Saturday. Clashes between the Garre and Merrehan clans erupted late on Friday, centering on Ceel Waaq town in Gedo region, close to the border with Kenya.

Clan elders reached by telephone from the capital Mogadishu said they had failed to settle the dispute over the town which serves as a hub for trade and commerce between Somali and Kenyan businesses.

Among the dead were militiamen whose battlewagon -- a truck mounted with heavy machinery -- hit a land mine, residents said.

Insecurity has been synonymous with Somalia since warlords overran the country in 1991, carving it into fiefdoms after ousting dictator Mohamed Siad Barre.

Shisheeye clans were mostly cleansed in the 90s and early 2000s for siding with opposition groups i.e. Garre were pushed into NFD in early-mid 2000s and rx to bay/bakool in 90s . And the OP is inaccurate in saying Gedo is unstable, the security in the region is one of the best in the south, this is only propaganda and lies from our enemies. As a working maamul is established in JL the region developing its qayraad further is the next step.

That was the case in the early 90s but not anymore many came back under the banner of Al shabab.

There are pockets of them like in all gobols in Somalia excluding Somaliland, but they have been decimated in the region within the past 8 years. Which is why there has been a lot of peace in the area in recent times.

Ouch looks like someone has their serious pants on.

So anyway, Bohol did provide the educated answer you sought yet you denied to accept that, so judging from that i have no idea what type of bias answer your seeking other than an comical one i provided, so anyway do what you must and ignore me as you see fit, because to me you were never my intended audience.

Go take a look at a map of Gedo and score tribal points elsewhere.

Gedo is 90% if not more MX

All the districts are overwhelming MX. Where are these other clans majority? Which district?
According to Somalia: Background Brief, a document prepared by the Asylum Division of the British Home Office, the Marehan "home region lies west of the Juba River, north of Bardera, with another pocket in the Ethiopian border area north of the Shebelle [river]" (Oct. 1995, 40). This information is corroborated by the attached map showing the distribution of Somali clans (Lewis Aug. 1995, np.).

:dwill:Whats with the Caay?

Anyway its like i said, you seeking an bias answer while following an biased map wont change the reality on the ground, because Gedo as of after 90's is an mixed multi clan region.

Look at this picture, as you will have your answer your seeking.

It is true Marehan are majority in all the districts but some districts have large amount of other groups. Only Beled Hawo district is the only 100% Marehan district.

This is from 2016 assessment on southern regions.

"Tensions are most pronounced in El Wak where the Garre are a majority in the town though a minority in the district"

It was very unstable in the past but when do we hear about bombs in Gedo or alshabab attacks? Its not very common. Gedo is improving in security and with that investment will follow.
