That’s not what she pointed out. Maybe you should replay the clip here, as she makes it seem that “White right-wing extremism” is responsible for things like school-shootings. A school shooter could have committed his crime because he was bullied, or because he was cynical about life, or because he was mentally deranged. But Ilhan and her buddies make it seem as if all of these shootings are “right wing White Nationalist extremism.” You’d have to be a special level of stupid to conflate the two.

And if Ilhan wants to start discussing “statistics”....what makes you think that someone won’t point out that Somali males are enormously overrepresented in those arrested for terrorism offences? We can play this game all we want. Why not discuss the fact that Black men are twice as likely to commit a hate crime as White men? What about the fact that HALF of all American policemen who die on the job are killed by Black men? What about the fact that HALF of all homicides in America are done by Black men?

If you want to play the identity politics statistics game, I promise you that it will backfire on Somalis BIG-TIME.

I know of White Americans who never even heard about Somalia (or if they did, they cared very little about it)....suddenly knowing everything about Somalis because of Ilhan Omar.

I don't know she isn't raising somali interests for sure but things I would like her to focus when a rational president comes into power are the following:

A - Taking Somalia and other Islamic countries off the list of Banned nationalities for US entry
B- Increase the refugee numbers coming to America and make it open to all citizens of the world like it used to
C- More funding for the University of Minnesota so research can be done in many fronts.

We need feederal investment in research. Trump and company are anti-science. They love to cut education funding across the board because that is religion to them. He appointed the dumbest woman in America to head the Education department. Americans protested her visits to their schools many times to show their contempt. That is how much people feel threatened by Trump and his ignorant class of MAGA crew.

The potential she and like-minded young women in congress have is immense. Unfortuantely, individuals like her and her friends can have little impact when congress and the senate plus the president who is supposed to sign laws are anti anything good for society.

There is danger to everyone in America who is sane today be they white, black, asian or anyone unless coming from the white house and MAGA class.

Criticizing Ilhan when you are a minority is suicide in these poltiical environments.

My engineer coworker just now was asking me about Ilhan Omar. I made my opinion known to him and he said he gave her money online and pointed out to me I could do the same. Imagine a nonsomali dude beating me to that effort? I promised to give her a donation, which I will do later inshallah after he e-mails me the link on the ActBlue website.

In America, you must be represented in government or you will lose everything and live downtrodden.

You folks need to reign in your unsolciited anti Ilhan comments who will be used by the white nationalists, the brietbart farts, the fauxnews crew and 4chans.

Well then Ilhan should do the right thing and disassociate her actions with those of the Somali community. We do not claim her.

In the same way how a random Jewish congressman from New York only speaks on behalf of his 800 000 constituents, and not Jews worldwide....then we should view Ilhan as just a congresswoman and not the voice of all Somali-Americans.

I am Somali American. I supported Ilhan and caped for her throughout her campaign and until now. But she has gone too far recently and shown herself to be uncouth. Somalis are in the spotlight because of her and not for a good reason.

White racist folks will always have an issue with a non-white pursuing their american piece of the pie. They are not accepting to anyone. You are fooling yourself if you think disassociating the somali name from Ilhan will help you feel safe.

If you want to live in fear and be separate from the somali association, that is your ill-thinking. Racist whites won't care what you think. They will always see you as an outsider and as a somali.

I am assuming your gripes against her is concern for the somalis in general and not based on petty clan bigotry.

I wouldn't care what white racist people say about her and about somalis. I am somali American and have the same right everyone else in this country has.

This guy doesn’t seem to get it. He thinks we should blindly stand behind Ilhan because she’s a Somali. Not realizing the fact that she’s made life HARDER for regular Somalis across America.
