Shit. Is nothing sacred anymore. The bur I always assumed as our last stronghold was originally from the Italians like most our foods.

Even the type 9 diabetes inducing Halwa is Arabic.

WTF have we been doing for the past millenia?

bur/khamiir originated from yemen. somalis were pure nomads. they dont have any traditional dish besides laxoox. most somalis drank only milk as a food source

Yoo

Eel eh?
Laxoox was an import as well.

:mjkkk:
Whats more shocking is how we managed to not have any seafaring culture or fish dishes with such a long coastline, atleast now people in xamar eat fish at maqayaads lol back in the day they had to be forced. I guess atleast in that regard the diaspora is doing a good thing :yacadiim: chicken and fish are popular in xamar now:siilaanyosmile:

It makes sense why we didn't have a seafood culture.

Groups that lived near the coast didn't last long because those regions weren't fit for farming or pastorialist (lack of pastures).

Fishing won't complete a diet.

Also in a place full of roaming nomadic clans you don't want your permanent settlement known in case of droughts.

Fishing trawler would be more economical and better at catching fish.

The Somali ocean is treacherous. I wouldn't attempt to play around with Anything less than a massive 50m ship.

Are you in Xamr now? The waters near the coasts tend to be cool but it can flip on you on a dime and you'll end up hundreds of miles away with the random Somali currents in the region.
