Was Mogadishu/Somalis better off under Italian rule?

I disagree. When he came in 1969 1 Somali shilling was equal to 6 USD and it never got stronger than that. By the 80s 1 USD was equal to 6,000 Somali shillings. All of Mogadishu infrastructure at that time was still from Italian colonial times the roads and everything.
All Siad did well Berbera to Soviets for weapons and more infrastructure money to spread out across different regions such as more roads for other regions which he contracted the Chinese to do off of the aid packages they received from Soviets. He basically did the bare minimum. He took control of a good situation and destroyed. In the end he couldn’t even gain his Soviet buddies allegiance when they ended up switching on us. Simply failure after failure with that guy but nobody wants to admit it.
Giving Siad credit is like giving Trump credit when Obama left him with an okay economy. Difference is Trump hasn’t yet destroyed that economy while it took Siad about less than 8 years to destroy his after disastrous 77 war which was the beginning of the end for Somali Republic economy

The stupidity that one can read on this forum always delivers the necessary comedy. Xamar was already a magnificent city before the Italians showed up. The Italians simply modernised the city with their non somali colonial workforce. Why even bother to compare the city in different timelines. Xamar became war torn the city isn't even rebuild to the former glory. Xamar will reclaim the title pearl of the indian Indian Ocean when Al shabaab is history and reconciliation. These negroes need to get an Somali history online course ASAP!!

The Italians may have built very nice European architecture & some modern infrastructure, but the reality on the ground was that Italian settlers treated Somalis like second-class citizens.
They even continued using bantus as "forced labour", but banned Somalis from owning Slaves. Hypocrites.

What are u talking about? Back in those days Somalis were the most liberal they've ever been. the 60s and 70s for somalis were the golden years where Christians and Muslims danced together. People def less had iman and weren't as religious. Do u not see that the more 'religious' Somalia got the worse it became for the people? Secular society is good for Somalis.
lol the Italians taught Siad Barre how to rule his country. If u look into Barre u know that he was secular and was friendly with the Italians and had no problem gunning down religoius fanatics. Ideas of secularism and anti-tribalism that Barre put forth were the same from the Italian colonizers. No other president moved like Barre moved.
Brutal? They were the most symphatetic and 'nice' colonizers out of Europe. They benefitted Somali infrastructure, education and institutions and they didn't discriminate Somalis as much as people like to say. Now, imagine we got colonized by Belgians or French? They would destroy our culture and spirit and we'd end up like Madows in WA.

exactly. Italians were the best colonizers for Somalis. The British destroyed anything the Italians built.

Think about it, had the Italians along with their Allies(Japan & Germany) not lost WW2...Somaliweyn & the HOA at large would've ended up like this:
Our lands would've been heavily Italianised culturally & linguistically, in addition heavy immigration of Italians settling to impose their culture. Imperial Italy's end goal was to fully integrate the HOA colony culturally with the Mother country(Italy).
I mostly agree but i'm not saying the Italians should have stayed, just that out of all colonizers Italians were were the most beneficial to Somalis. Look at what the belgians did in Congo and the French in West Africa. At least Italians gave benefit to Somalia.
They where nice because of the treaties that were signed. Somalis delivered resistance to the max the even used aeroplanes on us. Hence the difference between our protectorate status and the brutal colonization of other africans

the enture African continent is need of a white man as a ruler . Period. things will be so much better! If society has a race to look up to, things fall in line very well!
