Their obsession with qabiil made me realize that Somalis are backward people.
That mentality is necessary for survival in the baadiyo. It is not compatible to city life and it will be absent in around a century when the majority of Somalis will live in urban centres.
Qabiil is a good thing. Somalis just haven't figured out how to make the best out of it in the 21st century. IMO Somalia should model its country after switzerland and have competeting qabiil states. Each state should have some atonomy and the central government just builds infrastructure between the gobols. The central government should also take care of foreign relations and the national "army" (not regional security). The rest should be left to regions.

Cold War era alliances, most of Africa was useless to the US and soviets, outside of Egypt and Somalia as they were Red Sea choke points thus the Russians had to arm us and the Egyptians to the teeth to ensure safe passage to the Mediterranean
