We are both Caucasian and Muslim. (Us and the Chechens, no idea what the Dagestanis are) However, they (the Chechens) do not speak a Slavic language. We are both people of the mountains. Rugged.

I’m going to let everyone in on a big secret. Chechens are an ethnicity but Dagestanis aren’t. Think of it as Chechnya being single ethnic Somalia and Dagestan being a multi-ethnic Ethiopia. Dagestan’s population can generally be divided into Nakh-Dagestan people who would be distantly related to Chechens and into Turkic peoples from those identical to Kazakhs in the north Nogais to Caspian shore Kumyks who are descendants of Khazars to Azerbaijanis in the south
Now here’s the secret: Chechens absolutely hate the ethnicities of Dagestan that are Nakh-Dagestani due to land disputes and they’re clashing as we speak
