The struggles of recently divorced Somali women

I blame us Somali men 100%

Why don't we fix Somalia, so Somali women and children can live with dignity in Somalia. Until we do that, it will be hard for Somali women to respect us

I don’t think single parenthood is the problem. I think it’s harder for some single parents household and two parent households to support themselves this day and age based on the standard of living today. The price for living is higher today than in the past and wages are lower/stagnant.

Plus, family dynamics for Somali people this day and age is complicated. There’s a lot people who lost their parents, there are those who live in single parent households, there are those who live in two parent households and are not doing ok, and there are people who are doing fine with a single parent/two parent household. In my opinion, it depends on how much your family is doing financially.

Plus, I don’t think pushing the narrative that reason Somali households are not doing well today is because of the absence of a father is fair. I don’t think that’s the whole picture. And I have seen more families with two parents households than single parent households.

A woman kicking her husband out and ceerta will pay her rent is the reason why marriage is going downhill in the west. It was designed by gaalo long time ago for a woman never to depend on men and this came around the 70s when a lot of women who got educated in the 60s saw their mums struggle in unhappy marriages and vowed to correct that wrong. We came to Europe yesterday and its way older than us

Saxib,

Even if you have money of your own, if your husband was actually on top of things, you are going to rely on him as he is a functioning human being.

Accountability is important. Its not just the women on ceeyd but also the men. Why is a grown man on ceeyd, why is his wife on ceeyd?

Other communities are not dependent on ceeyd the way we are.

Other communities are depend on ceyr. Millions of whites are....i have actually worked in a job center and seen this. Also many asains are on ceyr. A lot of people on ceyr are scammers as well

Here we go again another xalimo with daddy issues.

You keep saying “us somali men” to mask yourself and continue the Somali father crusade like some losers here. Hush you.

Even the fathers in the household who are not there emotionally for their children are no good. Paying attention to your children does wonders for their self esteem.

@Molotoff shoukdn’t you be elsewhere pretending to be not Somali? Stop following me around xayawaan yaho naafta lahyan.
He is spamming me with dislikes too

Maybe he is a non somali? I doubt somali can be very petty like that

No crusade here cuz. Just a man who was raised in a single mother household, and also married a divorce

You cannot expect a person to be docile when they are not given their rights.

One of the biggest tragedies as a man is knowing that your wife can kick you out and her life will be no different because you contribute nothing and are essentially dead weight.

No woman will respect you if you do not fulfill your role, similarly no man will respect her if she does not do what she meant to do.

Again you only look for the problem from the fathers side. Let's say a man has no job for example, this can happen to all of us and a good woman helps him and encourages him in such a difficult time. Somali women abuse, insult and later leave him. They are part of the problem.

You are so difficult, probably your Isaaq genetics paired with your Abgaal Abtiyaal are the reason. May Allah gives your husband patience.

A woman will think twice about even raising her voice to a man if he is paying for the household and looking and raising the kids alongside her. If such a man leaves then she will suffer and find it difficult coping.

Not if the woman knows she is entitled to be taken care of and be given everything based on Religion and Culture.

You are very reasonable. Are you female btw? My apologies if I was supposed to know that without asking. Barwaaqo is a female name but you are using two word combination which does not denote gender.

Anyway, you are fair minded person.

Barwaaqo = Prosperity and is one of the classic Somali female names.

Barwaaqo
Jamaad
Boosteeyo
Bilan
Ardo
Samawaddo

To name a few are old female somali names.

Anyways, you are cute. I wanted to say that safely.
Thanks walaal you’re very kind. And yeah, it’s not my name, but nonetheless it’s name that I like.

Welcome brother and don't take the comments personal. I view every somali to be a brother and relative of mine even when we strongly disagree. That is how I was raised. That I was Somali first. Being Somali means a lot to me. Everything else is an addition after that.

Thanks for posting the message. Your views/voice are necessary addition to forum discussions relevant to somalis.

Keep up the good work saxib.

I believe there would be less divorces if Somali guys maned up When youre married and youre wife is a stay at home mom youre main Job is to provide for your family

Ive seen many Somali guys that believe as long as they provide they Done their part that mentality is wrong

When youre not at work you have a 2nd Job which is being there for your wife and kids be it bathing the kids, brushing the kids, bed time or check their homework and just spending individual quality time with your kids know who theyre friends are and how school is going the list goes on

Any man that does all those things for his wife and kids I can assure you she Will treat him like a king

But when the wife is doing everything in the house and being a mother and father at the same time thats when divorce happens

Not if the woman knows she is entitled to be taken care of and be given everything based on Religion and Culture.

Nothing in the religion or culture dictates that a man gives her money after divorce and this never happens in somali culture.

Some women are struggling for their husbands to provide within marriage, what makes you think they will get anything from him after??
