They spend it on million dollar apartments and cars, eat lavishly and pay 10x more for basic necessities.

So even if they retire, they won't have funds to keep that lifestyle.

First thing you should do when you make millions is to invest in a few hedge funds and rent out some properties. Even that won't get you the same earnings as an athlete but it's better than becoming bankrupt.

Tbh the best thing to do with a mill is buy your own property and invest in different things and also rent luxury cars/houses and rent them on for more lots of money in that field filthy rich in no time

How did he lose his millions? Maybe, he is getting older in the sport and making quick cash grabs from different sponsorships. But you've to admire how well the Ethiopian former champion Haile Gebrselassie (they had a stoush recently) he invested his smaller fortune (than MO) that he won in races in Ethiopia, he built a Business empire that stretches from sky-scrapper real estate investments, resorts to coffee plantations and mining. He employs 1600 people.

The two can't be compared. Haile Gebreselassie has connections back home and lives in Ethiopia. Mo Farah is just a average guy who grew up in a west London council house (doesn't know much about business).

Interesting hm would you say the owner of a big hotel in those city’s would make? What happens if it gets blown up? Is there insurance?

Not sure about Hargeisa but in Mogadishu the hotel I was staying made $20,000-30,000 per month. The insurance is saving money aside for reconstruction if it gets blown up that is why hotels in Mogadishu get rebuilt a day after if something happens.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Farah’s net worth is $5 million dollars (£3.8 million).

Farah has been on top of his game, meaning his money comes from Prize Money winnings, salary and lucrative sponsorship deals.

He also has a deal with Virgin Media, which is thought to earn him £1million a year.

For example, Virgin paid him £250,000 to run in a half marathon in the UK at the start of 2013.

He also has deals with Lucozade, Bupa, Quorn and Nike.

I thought he was worth much more than that. Hope he's smart and invests it wisely.
