I use to be really good at it, took me half a year or so to learn it. Now I’m pretty much terrible at it.

It is more than possible. My experience is, it is better to learn it through speaking with another person cause thats the easiest and quickest way to learn a language. So find you and arab friend you can talk to relugaly (standard arabic not "Camiyah") and i promise you it will take less than 17 month

Before that you should know all the basics (Grammar, writing, reading and ect.). With Good Basics and a friend to experience with you can learn arabic very quick.

Start by learning the tenses , then move onto question words, then common verbs and their conjugations, and finally common adjectives and nouns (which will be easy).

To shorten your learning time, watch entertaining shows or films in arabic and english subs:

I also recommend befriending arabs and chatting with a few friends who speak arabic.

It depends on how long you practice the language but it could take a while.

I can’t give a timeframe because for me it would take yeeaaarrss.

It’s not fair. How did you learn it? Any special tricks?

1) you need basic reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary that's easy to gain ..
2)you need arab friends which can speak fluently standard arabic. Speak with them for couple months and you understand arabic fluently. After another couple of months you will speak it also fluently.

Its unreal how many vocabulary we have with arabic in common. So you have some basics as somali
