Toronto police charge man in two fatal shootings, eight months apart
Toronto police arrested a man Wednesday and charged him in two fatal shootings, eight months apart, in downtown Toronto.
One shooting took place on Canada Day in Kensington Market, the other took place earlier this month on Queen St. E.
Officers responded to a call on July 1, 2018 at about 10:30 p.m. for a shooting near Augusta Ave. and College St., just west of Spadina Ave.
When they arrived at the scene, police found four people suffering from gunshot wounds. Marcel Teme, 19, of Toronto, was the most seriously hurt and he died three days later.
On Feb. 8, just before 2 a.m., officers responded to a call for a shooting at 366 Queen St. E., near Parliament St.
Officer arrived to find Jaunoi Christian, 24, of Brampton, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police arrested Ibrahim Khiar, 33, of Toronto at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday and charged him with second degree murder, three counts of discharging a firearm and endangering life for the Canada Day shootings. Police had identified him as a suspect back in July and released his photo as they sought the public’s help in tracking him down.
Khiar has also been charged with first degree murder for the Feb. 8 shooting.
He also faces eight other gun-related charges for allegedly being in possession of a firearm at the time of the arrest.
Khiar is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday at Old City Hall, room 101, at 10 a.m.
