Do you have to be good at mathematics?

Depends on what you are working on, if you are working on self driving cars or a space craft landing gear then maybe.

But I work on an app that helps our HR department manages its employees so not much math needed.

can my half bantu nephew become a successful software engineer and the next bill gates? :hmm:

What us, the ones studying medecine bro?
you guys are mashallah but you're second tier, second place to stem
engineers of any kind bring more to the economy, only engineers can bring rapid development to Somalia.
there is level to the shit as well, i'm studying civil engineering but i believe folks studying Computer science are more valuable in this digital age we live in

Getting power and influence. This by establishing a company that accumulate money and also invest money.

This is what's makes sense to me and it makes me happy. You got to do what's right for you.

Somalis are at the lowest when it comes to income and wealth. We don't have many rich people. If we were more productive in the diaspora, we could have done so much more in Somalia.

You should spend time alone and plan out your life. I've planned out my life till I'm 65. And it has made me realize that life is short, and time moves fast.

I'm not hating but you have no idea what tomorrow brings. Whatever you write and think will happen- I am sure and you can be sure, things will work out totally differently. You have no idea and I have no idea.

You are right. But also, you should plan out your life. It may not become accurate, but you waste a lot less time, and you become more focused. Life changes all the time, but that should not stop us from thinking ahead sxb

The very premise of the OP is a bad premise, leading astray. We should not even accept the premise and not even accept the question.

Its answer is "nothing". This dunya is not worth the wing of a mosquito.

The Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, “The truest words spoken by a poet were the words of [the pre-Islamic poet] Labid. He said, ‘Lo, Everything apart from Allah is vanity and falsehood…” [Bukhari]

I agree its not a good premise, but at the same time things like seeking knowledge and bettering humanity through discoveries in medicine and technology is part of being a good Muslim.

Allah planned my life. If I'm destined to become a millionaire with four wives and 20 children, my writing "goals" on a piece of paper won't chamge anything in either direction.

We can fantasize about marrying Halle Berry or whaever our dream girls are.... but the fantasizing will not change our destinies. The "write your goals on a piece of paper" thing is just fantasizing.

If you want to do it, I'm not saying don't- but it's not some necessary thing. If I want to do this-and-that thing, it makes no difference if I write a goal on a piece of paper. Honestly, I'd rather just get up and do it.

Dude, you are being dismissive. The goal is there to keep you on track, the actions are what really matters. No one here is oblivious of that.

Where does the Quran or the Sunnah say "focus on technology"?

Honestly, I don't care about technology. What is the technology used for? Surveillance. Social control. Bombing Muslims.

The techno-enthusiasts say "it saves lives!". Gangsters also give money to the poor. El Chapo, Al Capone, etc. It doesn't make them not gangsters.

Technology is used for control. It promotes the centralization of power in the hands of the "elite". Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded.

You can work in tech and make money if you want but it isn't part of being a good Muslim.

I am being dismissive. That is correct. I consider myself a logical person or at least I try to be. Logic is dismissive and doesn't care about feelings.

A thing is true, a thing is false.

Writing goals is necessary? It's false. It might help this or that person, maybe but it isn't necessary. I'm a little older and I'm not a feelings-focused person.

Its all under the umbrella of seeking knowledge, and anything can be used for good or bad.

And it doesn't have to specifically be tech or medicine, you can seek knowledge in whatever field to help better your fellow man. That is part of being a good Muslim

Technology is also what creates medicines, finding diseases, and medical equipment, cars, trains, planes. You are being the stereotypical ignorant muslim now. You can be a muslim and still be part of this world.

Dude. It's more logical to plan out your life. And how are you being logical and say that technology is not important? You are preaching ignorance here.

Who cares about "in theory"- we don't live "in theory".

We live in this world and what matters is how things happen in practice. And as far as knowledge, we're supposed to seek knowledge of Islam.

Of course you can be into technology, science and all that and I'm not saying it's wrong- however, it's not necessary for a Muslim to be into that stuff,

If we're totally honest, we who are interested in that stuff are interested in it for money, money, money.

I myself am interested in technology. I'm interested in it for money, money, money. I'm not under any illusion that science is going to save society. It's only going to be used to enslave it. I made a thread providing a bunch of material on this topic but no one responded to the thread. That doesn't reflect on the validity of my material, however.

Anyways, I recommend The Technological Society by Ellul to understand the function of technology. I am not saying that we have to be like the Amish and totally reject the use of technology. I myself am interested in tech and money, money, money..... I have expenses like anyone else.... but we should not be under illusions as to the social function of technology.

A smart person would know that technology like everything can be good and bad. Power can be used to help people or hold people down. I hope you know this. It all depends on the people. Not the technology itself.

Only a fraction of the technology today is used for weaponry. The rest is something that you and I are benefitting. You are using a computer or a phone right now. What the hell are you talking about man?
