When did it become so mainstream to hate Somalis back home. Usually it takes 2-3 generations for this to happen but in the Somali community we have people who have been living abroad for 5 years before they start hating on fobs. What’s going on?

don't want to derail this into a diaspora mud slinging thread but I've noticed American Somalis like all diaspora communities that live there try to distance themselves from their heritage and desperately claim the American identity.

It's because American identity is the easiest to clinge to if you're born in America you're American it doesn't matter who your ancestors are that's why the US is the best country in assimilating immigrants

lmao, my cousin who lives in Africa does the same exact shit. Every time, the same questions. Does not ask anything new, shows i think the lack of creativity over there. Then he wonders why i stopped responding to him. Ciida kwrn every week gets to you after literally two years of it nonestop

I think it's a bad sign for the qorax joog if they're starting to irritate the Americans with their small talk, Americans unusually are good with small talk and are much more interested in foreigners and foreign identities. Qorax joog would get more mileage by asking about school, career, other interests, ect. But reinacting the same, predictable and dry conversation every time before trying to shake down the qurbojoog relative for cash is a way to get yourself blocked or put on ignore real quick. Western born Somalis i think will generally have much less interest in maintaining ties with annoying distant relatives than their parents.

Diaspora who think they’re better than Fobs need to get there Somali card revoked. I refuse to share a common identity with such idiots.

Pretty much this^ its not that we are trying to distance ourselves, its that we have very little to say to people who never met, its always, like the tweet said repeat how are you 15 different ways. I don't blame them for trying to uphold ties of kinship, but if you got nothing to say you got nothing to say :zhqjlmx:

Used to think like him and feel bad now about it.
I shouldn't be an ass with my family back in home.

People need to learn how to hold a conversation. Alright they ask you how have u been. Talk about your family your life. Literally it's not hard and honeslty our family back home just want the best for us.

Wallahi I've wondered about this as well. The way some diasporas treat and look down on them, the Somalis in Africa as well the fobs, is ridiculous. the true embarrassment to see. Imagine thinking you are better than a fellow Somali only because you live in western country, speak their language and had adopted their culture more than Somalis back home. It's mostly the North Americans that's like this honestly. What gets me so angry is when they make fun of fobs english or accent and distance themselfs, but these same losers will 'represent' and be all about their culture when it come to CLOUT! If these type of diasporas want to participate their effort must be all or nothing, our dhaqan is not a fashion

Bro everyday these smellyians always be calling the crib.
Idk what they be wanting. I don’t even know a majority of them.
Horta I barely understand them.

Usually the opposite I see. Somalis back home be talking shit about the Western disapora, saying that we're "half-Somali" and have lost our dhaqan and are much weaker than the disapora in Africa.

Is that a lie?

We had a xalimo here who was crying because she was lactose intolerant the other day. The Somalis back home don’t even complain about a bullet wound.

I'm not saying they're wrong on the weak department, lol, but the "half-Somali" accusation is just rude. Take a shot everytime my grandmother starts going on about how when she was my age, she was supporting 5 children in the desert :noneck::noneck::noneck:

Ayeeyo was even attacking my 3 year-old sis :mjcry:When I was her age, I was fetching water for my family in badiyo! This generation is so weak!
