Dahabshiil could have been even bigger. They shot themselves in the foot by refusing to get with technology as far as their remittances goes. But dahabshiil is so much more than a remittance company now they have hotels all over Somaliland and they have banks they have real estate they have auto partnership with Hyundai to sell their cars in Hargeisa now . They also own part of the Berbera cement factory.

They also should have started competing with Zaad when it was launched over 10 years ago. EDahab took too long to start up and probably will never be as popular as Zaad. WorldRemit is kicking dahabshiils ass when it comes to online remittances . It seems dahabshiil could care less about remittances now

Did dahabshiil start due to the number of Somalis working in the oil fields in be middle East who needed to send money back?
