Somali upper class subculture?

There is no such thing as Somali upper class subculture, and thats strange...

In most places, rich and poor have different subcultures, tastes etc.

Rich whites like wine, classical music and poetry

For Somalis, rich and poor read the same litterature, eat same food and listen to same music.

This is troublesome since theres no way rich Somalis can differentiate themselves, they have to cultivate a culture from the beginning to have someone they can relate with.

Or maybe its because there no such thing as rich Somalis, perhaps we are all equally poor...?

There is no class division of that nature back home. You earn a name and status mainly through clan. A highly rich Madow or .5 man cannot ask for the hand of a lamagoodle girl but a miskiin xamaali lamagoodle can do so.

Pretty much.

The few times we had others much richer than the average Somalis we're the start of those short lived dynasties.

However they'll end up relying on their sub clans sooner or later and then the unwritten rule of "everything gets shared by the sub clan" comes into effect.

Hence we ended up with poor Sultaans that could afford to pay for an army and in turn consolidate his power over a long time.

That also meant that they couldn't afford to build cities; which would act as a foundation for those higher social classes.

However we need it today as social mobility would incentive Geeljire to work hard to increase their status in life.

ATM there isn't any motivation for it since everyone you know is at an equal level.

which is wrong, the british intordouced class system but it was ovetaken by clans again, i'm starting to think clan sultans are the elites, sub sultans are the semi elites, odays are the wisemen and other clan members are peasants

Don't worry @Shushue. Capitalism, with its emphasis on individualism above collectivism, will fix this in due time. Then you'll have your own Somali peasant class to look down on.

Madow are almost nonexistent in djibouti yet you'll even see some Djiboutian xalimos who are married to Madows. my French tutor was a guy from Congo. him and all his Madow friends were dating Somali women lol.

yes I agree there's africans from Senegal here etc working and they get somali girls they even marry them there's a isaaq lady that divorced her broke husband for a old Congolese computer tech doo money rules rlly

Well....rich Somalis are Gaalo wanna bes. They wine, they dont go to opera because their brain is still stuck in their camel dna mode, but overall, they roll like the rich whites. U know , Mecedes SUVS, houses and flying all over the world. etc etc
