Rape is a big problem in Somalia and it needs to be addressed by the authorities. Somaliland's recent bill that outlawed the exploitation of the Xeer system, which was previously used to bypass harsh sentences is a milestone and I see others following suit.

Somalia was voted the worst place to be a mother, not solely because of the rape, but because of other variables such as FGM, maternal mortality rate, infant mortality rate, sanitation problems and etc. As stated here, here and here.
