US forces capture al-Shabaab facilitator planning attacks in Kenya and Somalia

The United States and Somalia conducted a joint raid that captured a US resident who is thought to be an Al-Shabaab member, CNN reported.

The military raid took place in Gilcayo and targeted an Al-Shabaab facilitator who allegedly had residency status in the US.

American officials said the captured suspect is not an American citizen, but had travelled to the US recently.

The suspect is currently located in Somalia and is being questioned by the Somali government and law enforcement agents.

This is the second joint US-Somali operation in the war torn African state, which comes off the back of President Donald Trump’s policy to designate parts of Somalia as a “temporary battlefield” which enables military assaults without congressional accountability.
