Somalia to take full responsibility of managing its air space control

The Minister of Aviation of Somalia, Ali Jama Jangeli has announced officially that Somalia has assumed a full responsibility in regard to the air traffic control.The Minister has further asserted that experts trained to manage its air traffic control will be operational soon.The air traffic control that Somalia minister claims to soon take full responsibility includes that of Somaliland and contradicts the claim made by Somaliland aviation ministry.Mr. Jama, Somalia aviation minister has further announced that a two-story building erected within Aden Airport will be the centre for managing Somalia’s entire air traffic control.The minister said that the centre is fully furnished and the air traffic control instruments are available.He stated that Hargeisa which has its traffic control equipment will be under the administration of Mogadishu.The minister made the comments during a visit to Montreal while held talks with ICAO officials.Somalia and Somaliland agreed to jointly administer its air space during talks in Turkey.

Well they thought it was going to be a joint control but the headquarters of Somalia airscape control will be in Mogadishu. Sland
adminstation wanted some of the controllers to be in Hargeisa as well.

It basically means the central government now has the power to implant no flight zones in Somalia. If they want they can
warn planes from landing in Hargeisa in the event of instability.

With the way things are going, I can see how that might be needed to settle a few disputes. But I think it would be a mistakes.

SL are like Israel - fighting for their own survival while Somalia would just be fighting for land and its people are war wary and therefore less motivated. It would end like the six day war
