History thread: why is it that Indigenous peoples of Latin america still speak ther languages, whilst the ones in the US for example cannot?

The ones on the reserve still speak their languages.
Canada had residential schools- the goal was to basically take each indigenous kid and “re-educate” them to remove their culture.
it did cause huge cultural loss but most importantly the family and community unit were severed.
A lot of smaller languages are disappearing and becoming endangered. English, Mandarin and Spanish are replacing them.
Who knows, I doubt my offspring will speak Somali
