@Pwyneth Galtrow it’s good many students from the south have opportunities for education up north & Vice versa. When more universities are built in Kismayo and lower Juba region in general then we hope kids from as far as Caluula,Burco,Jigjiga, and Djibouti come study & graduate from there.

Kismayo university’s institutional branch in Dhoobley district under going construction and soon to be completed. Students from other parts of Somalia studying outside their Deegaans is nothing new. We should welcome development in the education sector.

Somali, is a race
There are plenty students from putland who are educated in Universities in Ogadenia for the past thirty years, infact iam sure there are way more puntland students educated in Jigjiga and else where in Ogadenia then vis versa. This isnt something unique to puntland.

These are all paper graduates. I’m sorry to say but you can’t have a quality graduates when none of the students can speak or read a lick of English.

I wonder, what exactly did these students learn? What subjects? How much knowledge can one really attain with just af Somali? Every time I see these photo shoots of β€œgraduates” it’s never mentioned what exactly they graduated in lol

Somali universities and schools need to focus on English language training above all. If the students know English they can go and learn any subject they want from the internet or go abroad. And we should definitely not be wasting anytime teaching Arabic outside duugsis.

You should read the posts before commenting really. It says they studied Law including Shariah Law.

You wrote 3 paragraphs worth of assumptions.

First of all, English is taught but the point of this course is for them to get jobs in Jubbaland where they will serve Somalis in AF SOOMAALI. Af-Soomaali is King in Somalia, not a foreign language. Anyway, why would future lawyers and judges in Jubbaland need English in order to work in a Somali State?

Finally, PSU is a great university and if they want to study further in a Western University of good repute, they can.

The Sultanate of Hobyo's judges were all Ogaadeen, Sultan Keenadiid brought them from Ogaadeenia to work as judges. Puntites do respect them and their knowledge, especially their Islamic knowledge and reputation.

The Sultan brought many Islamic Somali scholars from Soomaali-Galbeed/Ogadenya. Most of them hailed from Ogaden, a sub-clan of Darod. They were appointed judges in various cities under the Sultanate’s rule. Some of those judges and the cities whose courts they steered include;

β–ͺ Sheikh Ahmed Dheere, Ogaden. A judge in Hobyo.
β–ͺ Sheikh Abdi, Ogaden. A judge in Hobyo.
β–ͺ Sheikh Qasim, Ogaden. A judge in Hobyo.
β–ͺ Sheikh Nuurre, Ogaden. A judge in Hobyo (Sheikh Nuurre didn’t serve that long and was an interim judge).
β–ͺ Sheikh Aadan Yare, Ogaden. A judge in Galkacyo.
β–ͺ Sheikh Xaaji Xasan, Ogaden. A judge in Xarardheere.

One may wonder and ask themselves why all of those judges came from the same tribe. The answer put simply is that among Somalis, Soomaali-Galbeed was known to be the favoured destination of anyone aspiring to get well-versed in Islam. There were a great number of well-known Islamic clerics who studied Islam in that region.

Af Somali will always be the official language and Somalia and I never suggested that it be replaced, just the language of instruction in University be English to create more useful graduates. If that’s already happening today than great.

Just in my experience years ago when visiting Malaysia none of the students from Somalia spoke any English at all all. And many of them have flunked their courses and got kicked out, but continued living there while lying to their families back home they were still going to school & continue receiving payments. Felt bad for them as they were being asked to complete higher education while not even being able to understand the language.

I feel sorry for these families. The Universities in Somalia are just getting better and better and as you can see in this thread PSU graduates can go on to further study at the best University in Canada. So why bother going all the way to Asia?

There was some sort of communication between Ugaas Nuur Cubudhiye the former King of Ogaden & Sultan Keenadiid where they wrote letters to eachother to unite Ogadenia under the control of Ugaas Nuur and Hobyo to fight the Italians.
