Ur a fucking lander, of course ur gonna make up bullshit about ur country

You've got a very bad mentality. N I am not a "lander", I am a somali who is pro-somaliland. Not making up bullshit, we've got a family export business. We're trying to get products from south into the Arabian peninsula through berbera. When it comes to business, I put qabil and politics to aside.

//Off topic// I've got a gut feeling your xamar cadcad/shanshi. They tend to ignorantly refer isaaqs as landers as if it's a insult.

Wrong, I was born in Xamar, no cadcad/shanshi/bantu here, lander is a term I and many other normal somalis like to call somalidiids, weather they take it as an insult or not isnt our problem

What happens after 11pm? :cosbyhmm:
After 11pm, its safe to travel by car, although you will need to have somebody driving with a real or bogus ID to travel without hassle from unpaid military soldiers looking for his 1 dollar for supper and khat. Someone who is well known by the police and experienced on the road.

But on foot is not ideal because Terrorist groups mostly operate at night and you will be at risk of exposing yourself to both them and NISA chasing after them. You also expose yourself for easy assassination target. This is only true in certain neighborhoods rife with them, which you must learn quickly which one you reside in.
In xaafads where government control is absolute you are totally safe on foot and have nothing to worry about.

I know when you come you will try to stay at home but this is the worst thing you can do. Its better to go out during the safe hours I mentioned and learn your lical xaafad routes. Everyday you expand your pool and make good local friends. Keep your circle tight and do not acquire too many acquaintances, you dont want alot of people knowing your house. Keep exploring and youll learn the greatest sights around Xamar such as the ruined Catholic Church, Liidi Beach, Geelliqay, Argo , Jaziira Beach, Oman Sultanate base or Biteero

Xamarweyne and more

Its really awesome place and if your af Somali is poor the worst thing you can do is stay silent. Try to interact with the folks, you may get laughed at first but you instead use this opportunity to learn from your mistakes.

Wear normal clothes that wont attract much attention, infact I suggest you throw out all your clothes and buy local clothes. Do not grow out your hair and keep it short.

Be prepared to hear your first explosion it may terrify you at first but you will get used to it so much that you can accurately predict when they generally occur if too much time has passed between them. Sometimes a place you just attended may have been bombed hours later. You get used to it because God has written when youll die.

These things may sound alarming but it doesn't affect of the enjoyment of the city at all. Nothing beats being with your people and doing things the Somali way in a stress free gracious Somali nation.

No western rat race where you retire at 65 only to die of genitically modified sludge and flourided poison water.

I've only been to puntland as a qualified nurse I to wanted to see the situation in Somalia particularly in where the region I come from, if I'm being frank it's best you have a chaperone with you once you go t Somalia, thankfully I had one of my relative take me from place to place in a car. The drought has made Somalia weak, many people will instantly ask you for some money etc, I enjoyed my time there but as a woman I was not safe without a relative with me, thankfully I visited the hospital and saw what the situation was like there. But I advise to have relative's with you at all time as a 'foreigner' and regrettably that's how people view us anyway we are more susceptible to crime and abuse. I was scolded a view times and that was just by walking to the shops with my relatives, unfortunately from then on I relied on the car to take me to places as I was harassed to much or stared at I wasn't comfortable walking on my own. Anyway enjoy your mission there as health care professionals it's put duty to protect our people. I enjoyed seeing the patients and helping as much as I could.

Stay in abudwaaq. The clan cleansing is about to begin in Mog. Two Haiwye clans have been locked out of the government. They have declared war on the newly democratically elected government of Farmaajo.

Go to Gaalkayo. You can stay with my cousin, he works parttime in a hospital. You can stay with him and share the rent and I don''t have to send him money. win- win for both of us.

Why were you were harrased? You acted too weak and you felt vulnerable. Somalis can smell weakness and timidness from a mile away. You were probably looking at the floor while staring, especially women, you should have kept your head up and stare at them back as veracious ly as they stared at you until they avert their eyes.

If they insult you, you must insult them back in a worst way, very loudly, embarrassing the person.

You must beat them in their own game, thats how you gain respect and people will love you for standing up for yourself

Stop acting like the victim if you cant take the heat, thats just the harsh Somali way

How on earth is anything you just described stress free :icon lol:
The dollar is strong and has much more worth, you can easily live off 200 dollars a month if your single

In America 200 wont even cover your car insurance bill

I want to check out Xamar but my mum would disown me.

The fact that my distant cousin who only stayed for two weeks and got killed in that Liido beach attack does not help.

I was bought up to be respectful to people and yes I'm shy that's my natural character I cannot change that unfortunately. I am kind and respectful to everyone, however if people choose to be rude and unapproachable, I will rather be traveling by car than be harassed constantly refered to as the 'arab' or ' foreigner'. Young boys talking disrespectfuly to me as if they were not taught any manners. Many of my family members loved my company and treated me with utmost respect unfortunately the streets need to clean their act up, predominantly on decency and moral in how to greet people.

It's very pretty and I've never felt unsafe being there. Can't wait to go back.

Yes al shabby has made the city unsafe but the civilians aren't. Believe it or not there are cities in Asia and South America more dangerous than Xamar. What is making Xamar dangerous is AS and that's it. Without them the city would thrive.

Go check out all the historical areas. And if you have no relatives there why not book a room at a hotel? It doesn't have to be one of those famous one MPs and foreigners use.

You're very brave OP, I'd never go to a place in Somalia if I didn't have relatives there. I'd just stick to my sub clans and their tuulo

Personally I dont view Mogadishu as my capital nor do i have any plans on ever going there. Too risky.

You have no idea how many LA people are there, I have a lot of friends, they have several high profile businesses there well known. Your being fed a boogie man story dude, I been there more then 10 times (every year in this decade).

I have never heard an explosion with my ears, that's despite staying a whole year at the worst time when shabab held districts, closest thing was a bullet casing landing in the garden that's it.

It's no different then major American cities, you have the suburbs and the ghetto's were you would likely get shot, Xamar is no different, I travelled Xamar, Hargaisa, Gaalkacayo, Cadaado, Hobyo, Beledweyne, Garowe, Bosaaso, the best place, most safest, most diverse and the best people hands down Xamar.

I've been a longtime lurker here but this is my first post here. I've decided that now that I'm 21 years old and still haven't been to dhulka hooyaday that I will travel to Xamar during the entire month of June. My family went to Hargeisa last summer but I was busy with other things then so I couldn't make it last summer. So I will be going down there alone and the thing is that 90% or more of my reer left the country for the West or neighboring countries so I basically don't have any close relatives or kinsmen in Mogadishu. My parents were born there but their families are originally from the area around Galkacyo.

I'm not a total noob when it comes to living in Africa as I've been working in rural clinics in south sudan for the last 4 months (I'm a medical student). As of now my plan is basically to buy a ticket to Mogadishu and either find some voluntary work in some local hospital/clinic or just meet with people and practice my half-qashin af-soomaali. The "problem" is that I don't have any close relatives that i can stay with and would prefer not to stay in a hotel. When I were in South Sudan I used to ask "random" people if i could give them 50 dollars and stay in their place for like 1 or 2 weeks. Do you guys think that I could ask somalis in Xamar if i could stay in their place for a time (and give like 200 dollars) and also teach their children in school subjects and english.

My mother were against the idea at first but I told her to trust me and she is okay with it now. Do you guys have any thoughts and ideas on my basic plan as of right now?

Bro so long text and u didnt mention ur clan??? So dissapointing. Good that u repented from this sin by stating ur clan in the second post.
